“Our prayer is for the Lord to help us keep the vision of Rory alive in SCO,”
Bro Jack Koma, NATEX Chairperson
Commemorating the livelihood of his dreams, his vision and his belief – the Dr Rory Prest Memorial Lecture is a quarterly event, where SCO associates are joined side by side with SCO leadership in reflecting upon the practices of Dr Rory Prest, SCO’s first National Director.
Dr Prest led SCO from the day of merger between the Students’ Christian Association (SCA), an organisation racially classified by the influence of the Apartheid regime as being for English-speaking Whites and the Students’ Christian Movement (SCM), an organisation racially classified by this same regime as being for the Black African community – in July 1997 up until his passing in 2001.
The inaugural lecture was held on November 25, 2017, at the Rosebank Methodist Church Complex in Cape Town, this being the current temporal home of the SCO National Office but more significantly the base of Dr Rory Prest during his time of office.
Come and join your SCO family at a Dr Rory Prest Memorial Lecture near you to learn more about developing a truly beautiful and transformed SCO!
The Dr Rory Prest Memorial Fund
The Dr Rory Prest Memorial Fund is a seed account to help subsidise salaries for new SCO staff members in making way to employ 20 field workers by the year 2020.
Named after Dr Rory Prest, the first National Director of SCO (after the merger of the Students’ Christian Association & the Students’ Christian Movement in 1997) – this fund is inspired by Dr Prest’s now-defunct Centenary Fund, founded in 1996 with the same objective in mind. Up until the implementation of the Dr Rory Prest Memorial Fund, a majority of SCO staff have earned less than 50% of their intended monthly-earnings.
You can give toward staff salaries by contributing towards the Dr Rory Prest Memorial Fund.
